How to get to Cookstown
Cookstown is the fourth largest town in County Tyrone, in
Northern Ireland. It's 72 km (45 mi) from Belfast along the
M1 and 50 km (31 mi) from Belfast International
Airport. The A29 links it to
Dungannon to the south, and
Omagh along the A505 to the west.
Cookstown's claim to fame
Cookstown has the honour of being home to the
longest and widest main street in the whole
of Ireland. So-called "One Mile Street" is
actually 2.4 km (1.5 mi) long and 39m (130 ft) wide.

Cookstown was named after its founder, Dr Allen Cooke, who
established the settlement as a market town
in 1628.

Beaghmore Stone Circles are just 16 km
(10 mi) away. The seven stone circles date back to 1500BC and
are believed to have played a role in fertility rites during
the Bronze Age. Other historical treats nearby include
Tullaghoge Fort, Ardboe Old Cross
and Abbey, and Killymoon
Castle.
Ballyronan Marina is a picturesque spot to stop for a picnic, while Drum Manor Forest Park offers butterflies, Japanese gardens, ponds and gentle walking trails just 8 km (5 mi) from Cookstown.
Sports and leisure in Cookstown
There are no fewer than three golf
courses in the area catering to all levels of
ability.
Horse-riding is available locally, or you can simply enjoy walking or cycling through the district to enjoy the stunning countryside.
The angling season runs from March to October, and there are boat rides on Lough Neagh.
